🔢 Entering Mathematical Formulas

Table of Contents

Introduction

To use the MathKiwi app, the user enters mathematical expressions in a special text field:

MathKiwi supports a wide range of notation—from simple addition and subtraction to advanced expressions like derivatives and limits.

To make input easier, the app offers two methods:

  1. A built-in math keyboard with symbols and operators used at different levels of mathematics.

  2. Support for keyboard shortcuts, allowing you to quickly and easily enter formulas using a regular computer keyboard.

Both methods can be used interchangeably — you can start typing with your keyboard and finish using the on-screen keyboard, or the other way around.
This section explains how to use both methods and how to enter the most commonly used symbols and operators.

🧮 I. Built-in Math Keyboard

I.1. How to open the keyboard?

I.2. How to hide the keyboard?

I.3. What does the keyboard contain?

The keyboard is divided into thematic sections:

⌨️ II. Typing with a computer keyboard

You can also type directly using the keyboard, with special keyboard shortcuts that are automatically converted into mathematical expressions.

II.1. List of keyboard shortcuts (examples):

What you want to typeKeyboard shortcutResult in the app
Exponent^x^2 → 𝑥²
Fraction/1/2 → ½
Square root\sqrt(...)\sqrt(2) → √2
Limit\lim_{x->a}limₓ→ₐ
Infinityoo
Pi\piπ

Note: Some shortcuts may require parentheses. E.g. \sqrt(4).
